GIS-based assessment of groundwater quality for drinking and irrigation purposes in central Iraq

In many parts of the world, groundwater is considered to be a key source fresh water for both domestic and non-domestic sectors. Where extraction implemented, systems monitor quality must ensure safe sustainable supply. Over years, Iraq has suffered from surface supply problems, necessitating in regions. This study investigates region central around Babylon city, covering an area 5119 km2. The data gathered this included maps, well locations was sourced relevant governmental departments. A base map focussed initially prepared following collection. analysed parameters were used as attribute database produce thematic maps using geographical information system (GIS) environment. paper, index (WQI) irrigation (IWQI) calculated different samples various including Electrical Conductivity (EC), Cl?, HCO3?, Na+ pH. Moreover, suitability purposes been assessed indices such Kelly’s ratio (KR), sodium absorption (SAR), residual carbonate (RSC), soluble percentage (SSP) permeability (PI). Water have developed GIS obtained results reveal that location requires specific treatments usable.
